Bottoni Rossi - charachter design and costume explorations of Nemi, Lani, Zenzero and Coriandolo
Nemi, Lani, Zenzero, and Coriandolo are all major characters in "Bottoni Rossi," one of my many cherished personal projects.
They exist in a vibrant universe bursting with color and joy, yet it often veers into unsettling territory. This world is coherent and has a well-defined social structure, still it is also full of internal moral contradictions. While the general atmosphere is uplifting, some crucial moments disrupt this harmony, introducing disturbing visuals and scenes.
Since I already had a clear vision of the characters' facial features and base silhouettes, I focused on various studies of their costumes, color palettes, and minor details adjustments.

I started with Nemi, of course, who is the protagonist of this story. I wanted them to appear as a witty, confident yet soft and kind character. Their guardian eye is located on their bowtie.

Lani was actually the last to be created from this set. I wanted them to appear as a shy, softspoken and agreeable character. Their guardian eye is located on their hat.

Zenzero was the second one to be created. I wanted him to appear as a reserved, reliable and gentle character. His guardian eye is located on his hat.

Coriandolo was maybe the most fun character to design. I wanted him to appear as an agile, unrelenting and drama king character. His guardian eye is located on his collar.

…and done! After focusing on their overall vibes as characters, I could decide what combination of colors would suit them best. Here they are Nemi, Lani, Zenzero and Coriandolo from Bottoni Rossi!
